The Home Point team manages Herefordshire’s social housing register and acts as the first point of contact for residents seeking housing support. The team assesses housing needs, provides advice on available options, supports homelessness prevention, and works closely with housing partners and support agencies to ensure households can access safe, suitable accommodation. They play a vital role in helping people navigate the housing system and achieve positive, sustainable outcomes.

The Role

As a Home Point Advisor, you’ll be a vital first point of contact for residents needing housing support, assessing their circumstances, providing clear advice, and helping them understand their options. You’ll play a key role in preventing homelessness by identifying risks early, offering practical guidance, and linking people with the right services at the right time. By maintaining accurate assessments and working closely with housing partners and support agencies, you’ll help ensure households can access safe, suitable accommodation. Your work will make a real difference every day—supporting vulnerable applicants, improving housing outcomes, and contributing directly to a fair and effective allocations service for the county.

What will you be doing?

Key Responsibilities:

  • Be the friendly first point of contact for residents, helping people at challenging moments understand their housing options and guiding them with clarity and compassion.
  • Spot early signs of homelessness and make a real impact by preventing it, working closely with the Housing Solutions team and partner agencies to put the right support in place quickly.
  • Shape real housing outcomes by assessing applications, updating key records, and ensuring the housing register reflects the needs of local communities, your accuracy helps people access the homes they need.
  • Build strong relationships across the housing sector, liaising with support services, housing associations, benefits teams and more to unlock solutions for residents who need tailored help.
  • Champion vulnerable applicants by identifying additional support needs, signposting them to the right services, and ensuring they never feel alone navigating the housing system.

About You
