Do you enjoy engaging with the public?
Are you a good, empathetic communicator and listener?
We are looking to recruit a registration officer to join our team at Hereford Register Office. The Registration Service plays a unique role in the local community, providing a service to a range of customers at key moments in their lives.
You will utilise your excellent people skills to provide a high quality service to those wishing to register a birth, death, marriage or civil partnership. The role demands high standards of accuracy, attention to detail, and the willingness to work within a legal framework. Above all, it requires the ability to be sensitive and flexible to the needs of the public at life changing and emotional times in what can sometimes be a high pressure environment.
This is a rewarding role offering great personal satisfaction, where you will have the opportunity to meet a hugely diverse range of people. If you are looking for a rewarding, varied and complex role where no two days will be the same then this could be the role for you.

The postholder will be on an annualised hours contract of 962.5 hours per year, which averages 18.5 hours per week. The work pattern is variable with some seasonal variations and includes some evening and regular Saturday working on a rota basis. You will need to be able to work flexibly, for example to cover relief cover at short notice.
You will register births, stillbirths and deaths, complete notices of marriage and civil partnership and undertake both statutory and non-statutory marriage, civil partnership and citizenship ceremonies. You will maintain a working knowledge of relevant legislation, complying at all times with national standards, service standards and best practice.
The Ideal Candidate
We are seeking candidates with excellent communication and public speaking skills. You should have a keen eye for detail and be committed to maintaining high standards in registration practices and customer excellence. Due to the varied nature of the role you will need to be proactive and solution focused. Although registration experience is desirable, above all we value transferable skills and experiences. Full training will be provided.

- Ability to handle sensitive situations tactfully and professionally.
- Experience of using IT systems to manage and update records accurately.
