Herefordshire Council has been working with partners to develop solutions to address Phosphate levels within the River Lugg/Wye Special Area of Conservation (SAC) in order to improve the water quality and ensure favourable conservation status can be met.
The Council has sought independently to develop a number of pioneering solutions to address both the existing water quality of the watercourses as well as facilitating nutrient neutral development, in order to fulfil our housing need.
One of our high profile projects is the delivery of a series of integrated constructed wetlands to provide tertiary treatments to point source pollution at waste water treatment works.
Acting as an Environmental Technician for the wetlands project and working with the Nutrient Mitigation Lead your role will be:
- To provide ecological advice to the project team and wider internal and external stakeholders within appropriate timescales
- To review, interpret and advise on specialist ecological and environmental reports, technical guidance, planning policy and legislation
- To maintain and seek to advance knowledge, competency and best practice across a range of ecological matters including Habitats Regulations Assessments, nutrient impacts, designated sites, habitats and species and Biodiversity Net Gain, as well as identifying wider opportunities for biodiversity enhancement.
To work with other teams across the council to address the council’s recently declared Climate and Ecological Emergency.
