The Role

Herefordshire Educational Psychology Service (HEPS) has an exciting opportunity for aspiring Educational Psychologists.  As an AEP you will be supporting the Service in applying psychology to improve outcomes for children and young people with SEN and additional educational needs. 

What will you be doing?

  • Contribute positively and in a complementary way to service delivery, working under the supervision of an EP.
  • Support the provision of statutory and early-intervention educational psychology services to a local area/ in schools across Herefordshire (currently our traded work with school has been paused due to high number of statutory casework but we’re hoping this will change with introduction of the DfE’s ‘Expert at Hand’ model).
  • Develop and apply knowledge and skills in assessment, monitoring and tracking progress of children and young people with SEN.
  • Provide advice and interventions in schools and other settings as directed by the supervising EP.
  • Contribute to service development and training for schools.
About You

We are looking for AEPs who are highly motivated, passionate, dynamic and flexible.  You will need:

  • A good honours degree in psychology along with current knowledge of psychological theory and practice including up to date understanding of child development and experience of how psychology can be applied within educational or community settings. 
  • Recent and relevant work experience in the field of child development/education/related to special educational needs.
  • In addition, you will need to have highly developed communication and interpersonal skills along with knowledge of the context in which psychological services, schools and settings work.  You will need to be confident working remotely and autonomously.

This is a fixed term contract with the expectation that the successful applicant will apply to gain a place on the Educational Psychology Doctorate.

Herefordshire Educational Psychology Service is small but established and respected service.  We provide high quality, evidenced based assessments and support to schools. Although the focus has been on EHC work, recruitment will allow school based early intervention support for our pupils with SEN to expand.

We offer flexible working arrangements, structured induction, CPD opportunities, regular supervision and the support of an excellent IT system, which includes working from home.  We are a busy, friendly team of highly supportive colleagues, who will make you feel welcome and involve you immediately in a range of work with schools.
