The Herefordshire Veteran Support Centre (HVSC) is looking for a compassionate and proactive Outreach Worker to help us connect with veterans and their families across the county — especially those who may be vulnerable, marginalised, or hard to reach.
This is a unique opportunity to play a vital role in strengthening the local armed forces community by identifying needs, building trust, and ensuring that veterans receive the support and recognition they deserve.
The Outreach Officer role involves working primarily within the community, with some on-site presence required at the centre.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify Needs: Assess areas of Herefordshire where veterans and their families need the most support.
- Community Engagement: Build strong, trusting relationships with veterans and their families within local communities.
- Collaboration: Work closely with charities, statutory services, and community partners to develop practical solutions.
- Signposting & Referral: Connect individuals with appropriate services including housing, healthcare, benefits, employment, and mental health support.
- Advocacy: Act as a voice for veterans, ensuring their concerns are heard and addressed within local systems and services.
- Awareness & Education: Promote the Armed Forces Covenant and increase awareness of veterans’ needs across communities and local organisations.
- Monitoring & Reporting: Maintain accurate records, track progress, and report on outcomes to partners and funders.
- Capacity Building: Support the development of sustainable networks and community initiatives that benefit the armed forces community long-term.
About You:
We’re looking for someone who is:
- Passionate about supporting veterans and their families.
- A great communicator who can build relationships and trust.
- Organised and confident in working independently across diverse communities.
- Experienced in partnership working and service signposting (experience with the armed forces community is an advantage).
